This past Saturday, Point Loma Nazarene University partnered with Special Olympics, San Diego Parks and Recreation, Chula Vista and Harbor Kiwanis, and the San Diego Silverbacks semi-pro football team to host the San Diego County Regional Special Olympics Track Meet on PLNU’s campus.

PLNU’s School of Education, Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, Office of Student Development, and athletics department were joined by Brady & Co, Cheap Rentals Mission Bay, Chipotle, Einstein’s, Frito Lay, Knott’s Berry Farm, The Living Room, Phil’s BBQ, Ralph’s, and Stumps in sponsoring the event. This was the 19th year the event was held at PLNU. More than 500 youth and adult athletes and volunteers helped at the event.

“Bottom line, this event makes a difference in the lives of people – those we have the privilege to serve as well as those who are privileged to serve.,” said Jim Johnson, PLNU education professor, who helps run the event each year.  “I believe very strongly that a servant heart and servant leadership are the core of who we are.  And that is why every year over 500 people come to our campus and leave better…  because someone made a difference in the name of Jesus.”
